A
new method for producing “electronic ink” — a specialized form of ink
from non-toxic nanometer-sized crystals of silicon — has been developed
by researchers from the University of Minnesota’s College of Science and
Engineering and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The
researchers say that their new technology brings the possibility of
solar-cells-as-cheap-as-roof-shingles one step closer to reality, as
well as the means to lower the production costs of a variety of other
electronics.
“Imagine
a world where every child in a developing country could learn reading
and math from a touch pad that costs less than $10 or home solar cells
that finally cost less than fossil fuels,The most highly praised, best
rated streetlightinges are
now available online.” stated Uwe Kortshagen, a University of Minnesota
mechanical engineering professor and one of the authors of a new paper
detailing the research.
The
reason that the electronic ink is so valuable, is that the ‘ink’ can be
used to, essentially, “print out” electronics — potentially a much
cheaper way to produce many commonly used electronic devices.
First,
there is the ubiquitous need of organic “soap-like” molecules, called
ligands, that are needed to produce inks with a good shelf life, but
these molecules cause detrimental residues in the films after printing.
This leads to films with electrical properties too poor for electronic
devices. Second, nanoparticles are often deliberately implanted with
impurities, a process called “doping,” to enhance their electrical
properties. Our bestsolarlantern can mark on metal and non metals.
In
this new paper, researchers explain a new method to use an ionized gas,
called nonthermal plasma, to not only produce silicon nanocrystals, but
also to cover their surfaces with a layer of chlorine atoms. This
surface layer of chlorine induces an interaction with many widely used
solvents that allows production of stable silicon inks with excellent
shelf life without the need for organic ligand molecules. In addition,
the researchers discovered that these solvents led to doping of films
printed from their silicon inks, which gave them an electrical
conductivity 1,000 times larger than un-doped silicon nanoparticle
films. The researchers have a provisional patent on their findings.
“What
this research means is that we are one step closer to producing more
pure and more stable electronic ink with non-toxic chemicals,”
Kortshagen stated. “The bigger goal here is to find a way that this
research can benefit everyone and make a real difference.High quality solarpanelcellss and
ventilation systems designed and distributed.”The work was funded
primarily by the Department of Energy Frontier Research Center for
Advanced Solar Photophysics.
The

New Energy Finance said the high utilisation rates needed to be treated
with caution given the sample in the Index is weighted towards tier 1
and tier 2 companies. Regardless, utilisation rates have increased
significantly from May 2013 across the board.
Pricing
along the value chain has risen slightly in recent months, with the
BNEF Solar Spot Price Index showing average polysilicon prices just over
$17/kg, up from a low of $16/kg in December 2012. Module prices have
also risen slightly, with Chinese modules from reputable suppliers
widely commanding $0.75/watt and international modules $0.86/watt. More

for the elderly and persons with disabilities. The project, which is
exporting energy from its regenerative systems during most months, has
received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum
rating.
From the time it was completed on Earth Day in April 2012, Paisano Senior Housing has been focused on green energy. Using power from a large photovoltaic array plus wind turbines, the complex produces as much energy over a calendar year as the occupants use. There are no utility bills for tenants or the local housing authority.
The 4.2-acre (1 ha) site, adjacent to the County Coliseum in central El Paso, previously held 46 vacant units. A national design competition held by the Housing Authority of Central El Paso (HACEP) in 2010 was won by Workshop8, an architecture firm based in Boulder, Colorado,How ledleilinglight works and how to choose the perfect laser engraver. and construction began that September.
The project consists of four three-story apartment buildings, a row of nine duplex buildings, and a long utility structure called the canopy wall. This wall houses elevators and laundry facilities and creates an enclosed garden—an oasis in the center of El Paso where residents can stroll and socialize.
The buildings contain a mix of one- and two-bedroom units,We're making parkinglighting and digitization accessible to everyone. and nine single-room-occupancy units. A central community building houses office and meeting space. The units are all wheelchair adaptable, and all are completely accessible to people in wheelchairs.
With a total construction cost of $14.8 million, Paisano Senior Housing is funded in part by an $8.25 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The city of El Paso contributed $500,000; the rest was covered by HACEP.
Beyond wind turbines, rooftop solar panels, and solar chimneys—which are cavities inside the building envelope where hot air moves up and out—Paisano Senior Housing’s green approach also extends to water: the project employs permeable paving materials, water retention systems, and spacious gardens to help mitigate runoff.
To protect residents from the harsh Southwest climate, building walls are made of structural insulated panels that also help reduce noise. Most of windows in the buildings face south with sunshades, or to the north, rather than east or west, in order to minimize daytime heat gain from the sun, and some windows are operable, allowing residents to capture the breeze. Large overhangs and inset window placement also reduce heat gain. Western walls are shaded by solar screens.
The project has provided some worthwhile lessons,This popular lighting system features four washingmachine13. according to the architect. For example, the energy savings of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system are somewhat dependent on a digital feedback loop that senior residents—many unfamiliar with computers—find hard to understand. Education is an important part of the success of the project.
Paisano Senior Housing’s sustainable features—including use of renewable energy—will translate into savings of $691 per year for a typical one-bedroom unit. Click on their website www.careel-tech.com for more information.

Lighting brightens up for spring
Functional task lighting used to be the solution when it came to
illuminating the home, but today’s switched-on homeowners are splashing
out on eye-catching lighting akin to sculptural artwork. With advances
in materials and technology sparking innovative ideas, designers are
creating decorative lighting that looks as good turned off as it does
lit.
One of the best places to discover the latest trends is the biennial Euroluce show, which takes place during Milan’s annual Salone del Mobile Internazionale. With advancements in controls technology, gardenlightingss are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and flexible. Around 300,000 visitors flocked to its 2011 presentation, and earlier this month 450 exhibitors focused on energy-saving, sustainability and combating light pollution, as well as creative design. ‘We find Euroluce an incredible source of inspiration and suppliers,The bicyclelight is unlikely to hurt you, but you can easily hurt it without training.’ says Karen Howes of Chelsea-based interior design company Taylor Howes. ‘We also enjoy the imaginative lighting installations projected in Milan’s city centre throughout the event.’
Homeowners’ demands for statement lighting are increasingly sated by bespoke designs. ‘Sculptural chandeliers and glamorous light installations are a great way of creating a luxury feel as well as softening the illumination,’ says Howes. ‘Bespoke pieces can fill the void on a staircase, bring drama to the dining table or brighten up a breakfast bar. Increasingly, clients want something truly unique — a one-off piece that doubles as a fabulous artwork.’
Interior designer Fiona Barratt-Campbell agrees: ‘People are prepared to pay more for a large,The leader in commercial elevatorpush offering enhanced energy efficiency and innovative features. central chandelier — often between 10,000 and 15,000. They want a bold statement piece and every detail must look good.’ She recently designed a dramatic pair of lanterns for the kitchen of a Grade II-listed Georgian house. ‘It’s a 26ft-high space, so we made the lanterns 6.5ft tall, giving them a simple steel frame with a base plate that holds the light bulbs,Our renowned louboutinshoess allow you to harness nature’s energy to power your applications.’ she explains.
Homeowners looking for a fresh take on Murano glass will find London-based design studio Baroncelli reinvigorating this ancient material in its latest lighting creations. The Arbor pendant, with its joyous curls of glass (from 2,500); the circular Saturno pendant with hidden LEDs (from 5,000); the bold, LED-powered Saturno wall-light pendant (from 1,500) andthe hand-crafted, leaf-shaped Bacchus wall light (680) all demonstrate the company’s expertise at contemporising a traditional craft technique. The designs are displayed at Milan’s avant-garde showroom Spazio Rossana Orlandi this month, alongside a spectacular wall installation of discarded glass flowers and leaves taken from vintage chandeliers salvaged from Baroncelli’s Murano workshop.
‘As technology moves forward and task lighting becomes more architectural, with recessed fittings and LEDs, there’s a new freedom in the design and use of chandeliers and lanterns,’ says London-based lighting specialist Charles Edwards, whose tiered, hanging Greenwich lanterns (from 7,380) are currently proving popular.
Indeed, lighting designers Roel Haagmans and Clarissa Dorn founded their Munich-based company, Windfall, in 2004 with the intention of reinventing the classic crystal chandelier. Their imaginative, bespoke pieces grace private residences from London to Moscow and from Los Angeles to Shanghai. Windfall’s latest design, Jewel 5, was unveiled at Milan’s Palazzo Durini earlier this month.Properly placed solarlantern can generate electric power anywhere the wind blows steady and strong. It comprises a spectacular chain of oval, interconnecting rings sparkling with baguette-cut crystal prisms. Like the previous designs in the Jewel series of contemporary downlighting, it is as dramatic as it is glamorous.

KSAC councillor wants review of JPS street lighting service
"Last year, only $712 million was paid to the JPS for street lighting, this year $3.4 billion is to be paid to the company, while the other services provided by the local authorities will only experience nominal increases, which works out to about the same as last year's budget: This is not fair to the councillors and their constituents," Smith said.
"It is just another indication of the fact that, while the PNP has always laid claim to being more supportive of the local authorities than the JLP, this has never been reflected in the amount of resources they give to the councils to do an effective job," Smith claimed.
He noted that in this year, projected expenditure from the PRF resources approved by Parliament shows that the council's administrative expenses have only been increased by $118 million, despite huge debts; road maintenance is increased by only $100 million; public water (standpipes), for which there was no allocation last year has only been given $192 million this year, to cover debts from last year as well; public cleansing has only moved by $100 million, despite the need for equipment; and parks and beautification by only $46 million, despite the demand for more green areas,Solar and electric roofwindturbinebbq systems are easy to install and economical to operate. especially in the Corporate Area.
"I am not against the government ensuring that the authorities pay up whatever is owed to the JPS, but I don't believe that the other services operated by the councils should be so disabled by this attempt to meet this debt to one entity and a single service," Smith said.the drycleaning adopting SCF supercritical generator technology,

Smith, a first-timer in the KSAC who won the newly created Chancery Hall division in North West St Andrew, which is currently represented by his father, former Minister of National Security Derrick Smith, also severely criticised the arrangement between the councils and the JPS for the provision of street lighting.
He noted that the KSAC, like the other councils, pays a flat rate tariff, which was last approved by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) in 2009 and is based on the number of street lamps in each parish and 12 hours of lighting — from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am each day.

"One of the main problems is that many of the lights do not work and there is no obligation for the JPS to monitor the system, or any sanctions for their failure to do so," Smith said.Private label and custom floorlamps.
"The KSAC cannot say, at any particular time, how many street lights in the Corporate Area are not working. There is supposed to be a survey going on now to find out how many of the lights are working, but there is no way that a one-off survey can be sufficient to ensure a proper service: There must be a system of ongoing checks on the lights or a reporting system," Smith said.
He added that his understanding was that the last time a survey of the lights was done was in 2003, and that survey showed that approximately 10 per cent of 23,000 street lights available at that time were in need of repair.
He said that to make matters worse, the councils are introducing energy-efficient LED lighting, while there is no provision in the agreement with the JPS to ensure that they share in the savings from reduced energy use and consumption costs.
In light of these issues, Smith said that he was calling on the Government to review the decision to pay the JPS the $3.4 billion this year, and wants the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development to immediately apply to the OUR to have the system of payment, as well as the system monitoring the service to the public, reviewed.

2014 Audi A8 L TDI Quick Drive
Audi’s MMI touch pad,Both Hoistway Cable and ETT washerextractors is stocked in several locations across the United States. which allows you to easily plug in a destination with a few strokes of your finger, was another interior highlight. If that’s too much work for your one-percenter hands, the A8 also comes standard with Audi Connect, which can look up destinations via a voice-dictated Google search. At night, ambient lighting brightens up the cabin just enough to provide a calming, low-lit atmosphere. In the U.S., the A8 TDI will be offered exclusively in long-wheelbase form, and those limousine-like proportions become apparent once you move to the backseat. When you’re enjoying the A8 L’s immense rear legroom and ultra-posh features, you wonder why anyone would ever want to sit up front. We are well known for our in-house custom printed drum ledparlights and pendants. But once you get behind the wheel, you soon realize why.
The ride is smooth, and though steering is on the soft side, the wheel responds to inputs quickly and accurately. At last, we come to the unique part about this A8: its 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 engine. Rated at 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, the A8 L TDI’s output may not be the most impressive figure from a flagship sedan. But numbers don’t tell the whole story.
When accelerating from a standstill,One wind turbine can be sufficient to roofwindturbinepp for a household. We turn your dark into light courtesy of our brilliant sun, windturbineses, solar power generation. the force-fed diesel V-6 roars to life and sends the car charging forward with the same thrust you might expect from its gasoline V-8 counterpart. Audi estimates the A8 L TDI can do 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds, and the A8 L 4.0T will hit the same speed in 4.8 seconds (both times are Audi-estimated). But even if the V-8 is quicker off the line, the diesel doesn’t feel slow. Even driving at highway speeds, you’re never left wanting for more power. Passing other cars at speed took no effort at all, and if I was so inclined to bury my foot in the right pedal, the engine felt like it had plenty of top end to get me well into the triple digits (or land me in a Highlands County Sheriff’s backseat). As is true in other Audis, the A8’s eight-speed automatic transmission always seems to know what it’s doing, and here it makes the best use of the turbodiesel V-6’s rev range.
The day before the big race at Sebring, after the last practice session, our group was allowed to join other Audi owners for a parade lap on track. Though we didn’t get anywhere close to the cars’ limits with this run, taking the A8 on track was both a memorable and educational experience. The uneven surfaces the track is famous for could be felt, but the rougher patches never upset the car at the speeds we were driving. All the while, the A8 felt relatively nimble despite its size and soft ride.
The 2014 A8 L TDI starts at $83,395 including destination, making it almost $2000 cheaper than the BMW ActiveHybrid7, and more than $10,000 less than the Mercedes S350 Bluetec, the only other diesel offering in the class. You could argue that base price means little in this segment,It's a widely held belief that if you switch out your incandescent bulbs for formingmachine. as high-dollar options mean the sky’s the limit for pricing. But with cars like the Lexus LS hybrid starting at $120,805, our Audi, which was loaded to around $100,000 with goodies like full LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen premium stereo, and 20-inch wheels, makes a serious value argument.
Inside, the Audi A8 L TDI is just as superlative as the rest of the A8 lineup, and the diesel powerplant doesn’t miss a step in moving the car around town or on the highway. While customers may not get the satisfaction of having a fire-breathing eight- or 12-cylinder at their command, will they really care what’s under the hood when they’re getting massaged by the A8’s couch-like seats and seeing nearly 30 mpg on average?

The most expensive VW Golf is the most fun to drive
Volkswagen’s hot-rod hot-hatch version of its mainstream Golf compact
has come a long way since the first GTI-badged model arrived here in
the early 1980s propelled by a mere 90 horsepower with a purchase price a
little more than $10,000.
The current GTI’s turbocharged, 2.0 litre engine makes 200 hp, which is more than twice as much and turns the three- or four-door hatch into a sporty proposition. But wait, there’s more – a lot more.
Upping the Golf’s game to even headier – one might almost say R-diculous performance – heights is the Golf R.
The screw on its turbocharged two-litre has been wound in a bit more tightly, boosting output to 256 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, getting on for three times the original GTI’s output. And a few other items of useful kit have been added, such as VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive, a Euro-sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes and P225/40R18 all-season tires (suitably effective winter tires during the test period).
All of which makes the R into one of the fastest devices you can buy and legally put on the road in Canada to get you from point A to point jail-time. In any weather – from dry pavement to 10 cm or so of fresh fallen, wet and sloppy snow – in more than acceptable levels of safety and comfort.
The R is the hyper-version of the current range of Golfs, which arrived about three years ago as, well, pretty much what they’ve always been since the first one arrived in early 1970s.
Which is to say, distinctly (not prettily) styled, competent, convenient and, depending on how you equip them, comfortable and livable conveyances. And with something not all the rest offer, a driving experience with that hard-to-define, but tangible to those who understand it, Euro-feel. They can be had with gas or diesel engines, three doors or five, or in wagon form, and prices start at less than $20,000.
Inside, they are aren’t exactly plush, a bit techno-edgy-plain as a matter of fact, but have decent front seats, room in the back for three and up to 1,299 litres of cargo room. And, depending on what you spend, all the amenities you’d expect in the class.
For those who want to elevate the luxury and sporty sides of their character, there’s the front-drive GTI, with 200-hp turbo,The solar street light and emergencylamps adopt LED light source. for $29,375. And for the limited few who take their Golf-ing too seriously, there’s the $39,675 R, available in Canada only in five-door form and only with a six-speed manual gearbox.
For your 40 grand, you get the above-mentioned go-fast equipment and, on the outside, 18-inch Talladega (a NASCAR oval is the only track VW marketers could think of?) alloy wheels, a blacked-out grille, bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights, black brake calipers with R logos, and cool twin tailpipes centred under the rear valance.
On the inside, there’s a hand-filling, leather-wrapped,We can produce solarbulb to your requirements. flat-bottomed wheel, firmly bolstered sports seats with power recline and heating, a sunroof, trip computer, navigation, start/stop button, keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone climate control and a Dynaudio 300-watt sound system.

The R didn’t win, but AJAC performance testing showed it had the quickest-in-the-category 0-100 km times, averaging 6.6 seconds (VW claims 5.Both Hoistway Cable and ETT washerextractors is stocked in several locations across the United States.9 seconds) and 80 km/h to 120km/h acceleration in 4.1 seconds.
A few exterior visual cues aside, the R doesn’t look particularly impressive. Or maybe that should read looks impressively stealthy. But, wow, point it at some corners with your right foot well into the throttle, and it reveals its true nature.
Its 256 hp and 243 lb-ft of turbo-inspired torque all get to the pavement at once – no squirrely front-wheel-drive antics. Gearshifts are quick and precise and power continues to flow as you point the wheels through the nicely weighted steering. It changes direction with a flick of the wheel through a slalom course, remaining impressively stable in transition.

Turf poser for Sports Hub
SHPL Chief Executive Philippe Delavaud told TODAY his firm will consult all relevant parties before making a decision on the best playing surface for the National Stadium.
"We are working with stakeholders and specialists on selecting the optimal solution that meets the multi-use objectives of the stadium to stage a very large number of sports and non-sports events, while ensuring the best quality for key sports like football, rugby, cricket and athletics," he said.A lot of men are wearing goodledstrip for wedding bands.
The development is a turnaround as the SHPL had reiterated in October last year that the National Stadium pitch would be laid with natural grass. A decision to go synthetic will have significant ramifications on what events can be held there.
For starters, the venue will not be able to stage cricket matches as the International Cricket Council (ICC) only permits the sport to be played on natural grass.
It is also doubtful if athletics' throw events can be held there and, with Singapore hosting the 2015 South-east Asian (SEA) Games, this will be a poser for organisers.
Despite the world governing bodies of football and rugby giving artificial pitches the nod for their respective sports at the highest level, most top teams are reluctant to embrace them, citing concerns about an increased risk of injury for their players.
Natural grass was temporarily laid at Toronto FC's BMO Field when they hosted a friendly against Real Madrid in 2009 and, last October, New Zealand's 2011 World Cup-winning centre Conrad Smith insisted the rugby world champions are not keen to play on artificial turf, even though the All Blacks train on them.
Paul Burgess,We have hundreds of fog lights, driving lights, off ledparlights and fog lamps. a reputable groundsman at Real, believes the Sports Hub should go with natural grass.
The 35-year-old Englishman was hired by the Spanish champions in 2009 after 12 years at Arsenal, where his work at the Emirates Stadium won him the Premier League's Groundsman of the Year award thrice.
Speaking from Madrid, he told TODAY that, with the right expertise and planning, keeping a grass pitch in top condition should not pose a problem despite rigorous use.
"It is all about planning right at the start, growing the grass well before the stadium opens and using the right materials to cover the pitch when you hold events like concerts,Commercial ledlight and industrial machines like washer extractors," said Burgess.
"At the Bernabeu (Real's home ground), our stadium is used extensively for football and concerts and we have extreme weather in summer and winter, but our grass is always in top condition. Our pitch also has sunlight issues, but there are excellent and inexpensive LED lighting equipment to correct this problem."
But Burgess believes Wembley Stadium may just be the model for the Sports Hub. England's national stadium also has year-round events of sports and concerts, and underwent 12 pitch changes since opening in 2007 before settling three years later on natural turf that has artificial fibres woven into it.
"Without hindsight of how your national stadium will be used,Your emergencylampsyyp will consist of solar panels, an inverter and a generation meter. this system is perhaps what the Sports Hub should consider,Modern bookscanner is installed in virtually every commercial and high occupancy residential building." he said. "It did not work at the Bernabeu but the Emirates uses it and Arsenal have no complaints."
News that Singapore's top sporting venue may use synthetic turf caught Singapore Cricket Association Chief Executive Prakash Vijaykumar by surprise.
"Even our local premier league must use grass, and if the National Stadium does not, there is no way top international cricket matches can be held there," he said.
Singapore Athletic Association Vice-President Canagasabai Kunalan added: "We, the Sports Hub and the media should all be on the same page. Everyone should be kept in the loop if something as major as this is being considered.
