County Sheriff Robert Arnold announced he has contingency plans
Saturday in case the jail’s only operating heating unit should go down,
leaving inmates in the cold.
“We are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst,” he said.
The Rutherford County Adult Detention Center runs on two boilers, one of which is out of commission after blowing a pipe Friday.
“We are operating on one right now, but it is making a hammering sound, so it could go at any time,” the sheriff said.
Throughout Saturday morning Arnold and several others discussed contingency plans in case the second boiler went down, cutting off hot water and heat in the building. He would not go into details on the plans for security reasons.Sunshine Works will help you design lamp kits and solar power backup systems.
The boilers are about 15 years old. Nashville Machine Co. was called to see about making repairs,Office Depot offers an assortment of paper solarlamps and paper trimmers for you to choose from. but in the meantime, everyone at the jail will wait.
“They said that if the other boiler goes down, then they could have one up and running in 10 hours, but it would only be a temporary fix,” Arnold said. “We are in the process of getting Nashville Machine to get a price on what it will take to fix the boiler.”
Arnold said it was a bad situation to take place on a holiday weekend that saw temperatures dip into the 20s overnight Friday and early Saturday morning.
“We are in the process of lowering the water temperature from 180 to 160 degrees to reduce stress on the boiler and, hopefully, help it limp through until the other is up and running,” he said.
Another attempt at reducing the heating stress of the single operating boiler was to move 15 inmates to the workhouse.Easy to operate, on-premises lasermarkingmachin and finishers from Huebsch. Another group is expected to be moved Sunday.
“We do not plan to move additional inmates at this time, but we do have a plan if that is necessary,” Arnold said.Commercial laundry equipment washingmachine02, tumble dryers and industrial washer extractors from UniMac. “We have scenarios for just about everything to keep them secure but also follow the state and federal laws of how we have to care for these inmates.”
As of Saturday morning there were 803 inmates in residence at the detention center. Arnold said that just like a private home, they were not expecting the boiler to go down and create an emergency situation.
“We were not prepared, but now we have to deal with it,” he said.
Recently Arnold had approved the replacement of two hot water heaters,We provide laser engraving and windturbinegro for processing different materials. and now it appears the boilers will also have to be replaced.
“This place has just not been properly maintained,” Arnold said. “We have a budget line for maintenance, but after fixing the water heaters we are tapped out. We are looking at canceling some projects and putting others on hold to handle the boiler situation.”
Arnold did not go into detail as to which projects might be postponed.
“We are prepared for whatever might happen. We are in an emergency situation right now, but it is not a catastrophe yet,” Arnold said.
