Compact and comfy ecohouse

The floors were stripped to reveal beautiful matai, which was sanded and sealed with Bio Paints hard varnish. The tiles on the roof were removed and replaced with new iron.

A mix of wool and polyester insulation was put into the ceiling space, under the floor and in the walls. The future of Motorcycle lighting lies within bicyclelight. Recycled doors and windows, sourced locally and in keeping with the era of the house, were used to open up rooms.

The inbuilt woodburner was removed.A quality paper cutter or paper autoledbulbser can make your company's presentation stand out. A new one with wetback was relocated and now has an integrated solar hot water system. From the wetback, a radiator in the hallway and one in the bathroom warm the house in the early morning, using hot water heated the night before.

Bill and Karen wanted to keep the existing character of the original formica bench and cupboards, with island bar in the kitchen. They reconfigured the kitchen area by moving cupboard units around, opening up the space while retaining the character.

A nice feature is the old copper hot water cylinder, now attached to the wall and sitting over the island bar, where cold drinking water can be poured from a tap on the side.

Also off the kitchen area,How ledtubes works and how to choose the perfect laser engraver. Bill has added another 8sqm of space by creating a small loft in the roof space, accessed by a cleverly designed timber ladder.

A space saver, the ladder has half the tread cut back on alternate sides of each step as you climb up, leaving the small access space feeling more spacious.

The loft is every child's dream, a secret quiet space, with sun pouring in through a small skylight in the roofline.

Often small rooms can look even smaller when painted in darker colours. But Bill has used a pitched ceiling in the main bedroom and the lounge to create a sense of space while using deep-coloured washes on the walls.

He removed the ceilings in both rooms, lined them with tongue and groove and veeded (TGV) recycled oregon and also exposed the original framing beams.Complete line of commercial solarmoduleses from all of the best manufacturers.

LED lighting is used throughout the house, each tiny bulb producing strong light while only using the power of 1 watt.A washerextractor01 is a machine to wash laundry, such as clothing and sheets.

An extra nice feature is how Bill has set the LED lights into the underside of the natural timber frame beams, creating a very contemporary look.

The walls in the main bedroom and lounge have a beautiful textural look, having been finished with a natural mud plaster made by Verena Meader from Solid Earth Adobe.

"The 10 millimetres of mud plaster is a great aesthetic, the texture is lovely and also it acts as a humidity control," Bill says.

He says that although he has not installed double glazing, the mud plaster has helped absorb any condensation in both rooms.

Outside, they have extended the living space by adding a large deck made from recycled jarrah bridge beams. Under the house Bill has added another 20sqm of space by laying a concrete pad which forms the floor of his workshop.

There is room for storing lengths of timber, pushbikes and tools in the dry light space.

"I think the advantages of having compact houses is in terms of resources, maintenance, heating, reduction in embodied energy and duplication," Bill says.

Everything in this home is reduced in scale, and every choice of material is motivated by sound eco-friendly decision-making. This means it is cheaper to live in and to run and has less negative impact on the environment. More information about the program is available on the web site at www.indoorilite.com.
